Callum Wilkinson helps Team GB to win silver medal at the European Race Walking Cup

Moulton-raised Callum Wilkinson was part of a Great Britain & Northern Ireland team that made history at the weekend’s European Race Walking Cup.

No British team had previously won a medal at the event, but alongside team-mates Tom Bosworth and Cam Corbishley, Wilkinson returned from Alytus, Lithuania, with a 20K men’s senior team silver medal.

Wilkinson finished in ninth position overall in a time of one hour, 21 minutes and 54 seconds, which was just 20 seconds slower than his British Under-23 record-breaking performance in the Czech Republic a month earlier.

Meanwhile, British number one Bosworth finished just outside of the individual medal places in fourth with a time of 1:20:53, while Corbishley set a new personal best of 1:25:45 to wrap up the silver medal for the squad.

Wilkinson’s focus will now switch back to individual honours when he competes at July’s European Under-23 Athletics Championships in Sweden, followed by having to deal with the heat and humidity in Doha at the World Athletics Championships in September.
