By Sports Newmarket

George Wilkinson was the subject of much talk and admiration following his second-placed finish in the 92nd Enfield Open seven-mile walk at Lee Valley on Saturday.

The race winner was Olympian Dominic King in a time of 52 minutes and 33 seconds, but it was Moulton-based Wilkinson’s time of 54.41 that caught the eye.

He finished more than five minutes ahead of Surrey’s third place finisher Fransisco Reis, who stopped the clock in 60.09.

Sixteen-year-old Wilkinson, who is the younger brother of Team GB race walker Callum, ensured with his performance that he had retained the Enfield & Haringey Club Senior Championship.

Elder sibling Callum, meanwhile, has finished his 2018 campaign and is now looking ahead to next year’s schedule.
