George Whitehall successfully defends Junior Open Scratch title at The Links in Newmarket
There was a repeat success for George Whitehall as he defended his Junior Open Scratch title at The Links last week.
A total of 44 players from 11 golf clubs in the area contested for the prize, which for the second year in succession was clinch by 16-year-old Links member Whitehall.
The teenager, who broke the course record 12 months ago, shot a three over par 75, which started with an eagle 4 at the first hole to go out on his front nine in one under part.
Conditions worsened during his back nine of 39 but this was still good enough to win by four shots from Alfie Guy-Pinkney of Ely City Golf Club with Harry O’Shea in third with a gross 80.
Meanwhile, Bourn Golf Club secured first and second in the Handicap Cup, which was won by Tom Baptie with a nett 65, to win by six shots from Callum Wright. Third nett was Jack Roe from Elton Furze with a 72. Bourn also comfortably won the Team Cup with a total of 209.
