Newmarket Town confirm Lewis Whitehead and James Seymour are staying put

Michael Shinn's Newmarket Town squad for the 2020/21 season has continued to take shape with the news that Lewis Whitehead and James Seymour have agreed to remain at the club.

For striker Whitehead, apart from a brief stint with higher-league Cambridge City, he is preparing for a fifth straight campaign at the Tristel Stadium.

A knee injury plagued him for a large part of last term, but he had returned to fitness before lockdown and netted a hat-trick in the 10-2 thrashing of Whitton United on March 7.

Seymour, meanwhile, returned to the Jockeys last summer after stints with Ely City and Mildenhall Town.

Usually a midfielder, Seymour was deployed at centre-back for much of 2019/20 and made a total of 31 appearances, scoring six goals in the process.

The duo's decision to re-commit has taken the number of last season's squad staying put to six after Alex Archer, Joe Robinson, Ross Paterson and Ben Robinson.
