Lewis Whitehead rejoins Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Newmarket Town from Cambridge City
Lewis Whitehead has rejoined Newmarket Town on a dual registration deal following a stint with higher-league Cambridge City.
The attacker made the switch to the Lilywhites last summer having scored 50 goals for the Jockeys since the start of the 2016/17 season.
However, after making just 10 starts for the Step 4 club – and a further seven appearances as a substitute – Whitehead has opted to move back to the Bloorie.com Stadium.
Newmarket player-boss Michael Shinn said: "I did not want Lewis to leave in the first place but if I had been his age and from Cambridge I would have done the same thing at that time.
"I told him to give it a go and if it did not work out our door would always be open for him. He perhaps did not get as many opportunities there as he would have liked and thankfully he has chosen to come back to us.
"It is a huge signing for us and it will give everyone a boost. Hopefully we can get him scoring plenty of goals between now and the end of the season."
Whitehead is set to be involved during Saturday's home Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division encounter against bottom-of-the-table Framlingham Town, with Shinn also hopeful that the paperwork will be cleared for Martyn Farrant to be involved.
Farrant has been on the books of both Haverhill Rovers and West Wratting this season.
