Striker Mark Lovell joins Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Newmarket Town

Player-manager Michael Shinn has continued to build his Newmarket Town squad for next season with the signing of Mark Lovell.

It has been a busy summer so far for Shinn, who has already recruited midfielder James Seymour from neighbouring Mildenhall Town, as well as reaching an agreement with 10 of the previous campaign's squad to remain at the club for 2019/20.

And striker Lovell has now joined the ranks at the Bloorie.com Stadium following a term in which he started out in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division with Haverhill Rovers, scoring six goals in 29 appearances before making the jump up to Step 4 with Soham Town Rangers in February.

He went on to feature on seven occasions – scoring once – as the Greens preserved their Bostik League North Division status for another season.

Explaining why he was keen to sign the centre-forward, Shinn said: "He’s a player that I think will compliment Lewis (Whitehead) very well.

"It’s important we sign not only good players but good people and Mark is one of the best. He is a real leader and it is great to have him on board."
