Defender Rob Ruddy returns to Mildenhall Town following stint with Histon

Double-winning defender Rob Ruddy has returned to Mildenhall Town after a spell with Histon.

The centre-back joined Mildenhall from neighbouring Soham Town Rangers in 2015 and went on to become a key figure in the squad that clinched the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division title in 2016/17, as well as back-to-back League Challenge Cups.

He departed for Histon in January 2018 and was part of the Stutes side that lifted the Premier Division trophy last term alongside midfielder Matt Green, who also recently headed back to Mildenhall after a stint at Bridge Road.

Ruddy has turned out 17 times for Histon at Step 4 this season, but having announced his departure at the weekend, he is now back at Recreation Way.

Manager Ricky Cornish said: "We are delighted to get him back. He will add strength and power to us at both ends of the pitch. Rob is also a winner, which is so important, and the younger players in the squad will learn from him."

Ruddy's return will help to soften the blow of the news that defender Casey Phillips – a summer signing from Newmarket – has been ruled out for around four months with a knee injury.
