Sands nets in score draw
Mildenhall Town’s wait for a first Bostik League North Division win of the season continued on Saturday after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Witham Town.
In a game of few clear cut chances at Spa Road, John Sands put Mildenhall in front after 30 minutes with a left-footed shot from distance.
It was the returning centre-forward’s second goals in as many matches, having opened his account for the campaign during the recent derby clash with AFC Sudbury.
However, Sands’ goal did not lead Mildenhall to victory as the hosts hit back in the 65th minute.
L’Heureux Menga, who recently joined Witham, cut inside from the left and beat visiting goalkeeper Blake Horton with a shot that deflected off David Cooper and landed inside the far post.
Mildenhall midfielder Jarid Robson went close to claiming all three points late on with two headed efforts, but one was saved by Witham goalkeeper Luca Collins, while his other attempt skidded just wide.
It means Mildenhall have drawn three of their opening four league fixtures, losing the other (2-1 at Basildon).
They are without a game this weekend, but return to action on Tuesday at home against Wingate & Finchley in the first round of the Velocity Trophy (7.45pm).
