Kevin Jolly confident Mildenhall Fen Tigers will be racing in the National League next year
Kevin Jolly claims that a deal to keep the Mildenhall Fen Tigers racing in the 2019 National League is close to being completed, writes Graham Clark.
After putting the West Row-based club up for sale at the end of the 2018 campaign, Jolly, who will retain his position as promoter without a financial interest, believes the new consortium could be in a position to finalise a deal as early as this weekend.
“It has been a very complicated situation but a deal is very close and I would say we are 90 per cent there and we could release some information at the weekend,” said Jolly.
“I had a meeting with members of the new consortium on Sunday and I think it was positive. Everything that has been asked financially of me I have complied with.
“I thank the supporters for being patient during this very difficult time but hopefully the reward will be speedway racing continuing at Mildenhall next year.”
Although Jolly will not support the club in a financial capacity, he is looking forward to continuing his role in a different arrangement.
“I will still be the promoter but just without the financial input that I have put in over the past eight years and I will be taking much more of a back seat which I am looking forward to,” said Jolly.
“It is great that some enthusiasts have come in to take it over and see the club remain alive as it has been an intense fortnight.”
While the loose ends of the agreement need to be tied up by both parties, the Journal understands that deals have been offered to four riders.
“There are four riders that deals have been done with and we are now looking very hard at the remainder of the team and who fits in,” he added.
“It is important that we do make an official announcement soon, as those committed riders need the clarification."
