Petters confident mechanical issues are over
Daniel Petters renews his Pickup Truck Championship campaign this weekend with the firm belief that his recent problems are behind him.
The Newmarket driver heads to Rockingham for the first two rounds of the Oval Championship this Saturday looking to build on a pleasing return to form in his fourth-place finish at the Northamptonshire circuit last time out.
The 20-year-old claimed joint fourth in round seven of the Championship last month, a result which ended a run of four straight lower-placed finishes, which coincided with problems with the clutch in the #86 vehicle.
“I’m definitely looking forward to racing round the Oval circuit,” Petters said.
“It’s been an up and down start to the season but I feel that we’re now at the end with the problems we had.
“We had a problem with the clutch. It kept slipping, but now we’ve put in a brand new clutch system and I’m hoping that’s the end of the problem.”
Petters is one of nine rookies in the field during this year’s championship, having made the decision at the end of last year to switch from racing 2-litre Saloon Stock Cars.
“It’s definitely a different experience,” he said. “I’ve never raced on a circuit before, so it’s a big learning curve for me, and one that I’m right at the bottom of.
“I’m looking forward to Donington Park (July 21-22). I went testing there a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it.
“There’s also a round at the Oval which has pit stops in, which I think will be interesting as well.
“I’m aiming to do every meeting this year, get some laps in, finish the races and have a bit of fun.”
Saturday’s races are set to start at 7pm and 9pm.
