Newmarket Journal's Tony Jakobson steps down from Pin Money column
After almost 50 years writing the Journal’s Pin Money column, our man on The Heath – Tony Jakobson – has decided to hang up his binoculars.
Explaining why he has opted to step down, he said: “I took it on almost 50 years ago when the previous writer stepped aside.
“I have got to the stage where I feel I cannot do the column full justice. Old age is catching up with me.
“I have always enjoyed having the chance to try to find a decent-priced winner or two for Journal readers.
“I would also like to place on record how much I have appreciated the help from all of the trainers throughout the years I have been writing the column.
“Their assistance has been invaluable to me.”
Tony has selected a host of winners during his time writing the column, including Paul D’Arcy’s Pass The Vino in 2019 – a 25/1 shot who won the bet365 Handicap at Newmarket.
William Haggas’ Dancing Rain winning the 2011 Oaks at 20-1 and Jane Chapple-Hyam’s Naval Intelligence landing a 33-1 touch are two other notable selections.
* All at the Journal would like to thank Tony for his invaluable contributions and we wish him the best for the future.
