Ollie Canfer expects Mildenhall Town to challenge for Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division title

He may have left many people’s title favourites Stowmarket Town, but Ollie Canfer believes that in Mildenhall Town he has joined a team capable of challenging his former employers.

Stowmarket’s business of late has been the talk of the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, with four players arriving from Step 3 Leiston and another from Isthmian League North Division Felixstowe & Walton United.

However, Mildenhall boss Ricky Cornish has also been busy this summer bringing in players with a proven track record, including Canfer, who won the league with Hadleigh United in 2013/14.

And the forward, who scored 21 goals for Stow last term, is looking to be challenging for more silverware next term.

“I am not going to join a team that is happy to sit in mid-table,” said the 30-year-old.

“Speaking with Ricky he wants to have a real go and that matches my ambition – it would be great to win another league title.

“There is no real pressure on us. At the moment the pressure is on Stow for obvious reasons.

“We can go about our business a bit more quietly because a lot of people are looking at them.

“A lot of people think nobody else can win it but that is not true – we found that out at Stowmarket last season after a busy summer.

“There are a lot of good players at Mildenhall and I think we will be involved in the fight.”
