Wallis joins an elite list after latest success

Six times champion trainer Mark Wallis saw his name join an elite list after Domino Storm handed him successive wins in the ECC Timber Oaks at Belle Vue on Wednesday.

After sending out Cashen Maureen to lift the Category One prize 12 months ago, the Lakenheath handler repeated the trick after the daughter of Makeshift capped a fine season when leading home kennelmate Evanta Evita to claim the £15,000 first prize.

In winning the 470 metre contest for the second year in a row it sees Wallis become the first trainer since Phil Rees Snr in 1963 and 1994 to accomplish such an achievement.

“Domino Storm has been on the go all year long and has been winning right from the off around several different tracks along with doing well in some of the big competitions. This really is her defining moment,” said Wallis.

“She never looked like being beat after she smashed out the traps and although Evanta Evita ran well and got close, she never looked like passing her kennelmate.

“The race was dominated by both our dogs. The result is a great achievement for the kennel.”

Domino Storm saw her chances of making it a quick fire Category One double come to an early end on Sunday following her first round exit in the Coral Olympic at Hove alongside Wallis’ other entry Airforce Duchess.

“She was so well after the Oaks we were committed entering her for that race. If she was to have won it she would have had a chance of winning the Greyhound Of The Year award,” said Wallis.

“She was desperately unlucky as she got struck into and stumbled but she is okay. That will be it now until next year for her where we will bring her back for the Trainers’ Championship meeting in February.”

At Henlow this Sunday, Blue Moment, Aero Babooshka and Iilewin Allot are in the semi-finals of the RPGTV Henlow Xmas Cracker, while Swift Whrilwind is in the semi-final of the RPGTV Henlow Cesarewitch.
