Kevin Jolly has claimed he has been bowled over by the enthusiasm shown by Luke Ruddick following his signature for the Mildenhall Fen Tigers, writes Graham Clark.
The 16-year-old was announced as signing for the National League club on Monday in part of a double swoop which also saw the club bring back former rider Liam Rumsey.
“He was very enthusiastic about joining the club and what we want to do here and that really grabbed me as that is exactly the type of rider we want here,” said Jolly.
While the Berwick-upon-Tweed teenager is very much an unknown to Fen Tigers fans he has made a big impression on the track this year in winning two rounds of the British Youth Championship at Northside and Redcar, along with gaining an 8.22 average for Berwick in the Northern Junior League.
“Neil Vatcher (British Under-21 manager), pointed us in the direction of him and from the footage I saw of him he looked in my opinion one of the better three-point riders available,” said Jolly.
“For a tall rider he is very controlled, neat and tidy on his bike, not like how a rider of his height you think would be.
“It is a bit of a gamble we are taking, but one I believe is worthwhile as there is definitely something about him.”
Details have also been announced by the club as to their meet the rider night.
The event will take place at the Fenman bar at Mildenhall Stadium, at 7pm on Saturday, January 24.
