Newmarket continued their winning start to the season with a 5-2 victory over newly-promoted Felixstowe II.

From the outset the game was contested in the Felixstowe half and midway through the first-half Newmarket broke the deadlock.

Will Wilson took a quick free hit and was tackled in the 25 and was awarded a penalty corner, which he despatched to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The second-half saw Newmarket go up a gear, and despite there being an interruption when impressive debutant Sam Smith took a ball to the face and headed off to A&E, Darren Jenkins found Harry Bell in the D to double the home side’s advantage.

Bell then finished off a good team move to make it 3-0, with further goals from James McTaggart and substitute Jonny Bunker helping Newmarket seal a 5-2 win at home.

n In Division Four North East, Newmarket II slipped to their first defeat of the season, losing 3-0 at Bury St Edmunds II.

The early exchanges were fairly even with both teams having chances, but it was Bury who edged in front and went into half-time 1-0 up.

Newmarket keeper Seth Bailey earned man-of-the-match with some jaw-dropping saves, but he could not prevent Bury from scoring two more goals to run out 3-0 winners on the day.

n Newmarket Ladies II picked up their first win of the season with a 5-1 victory over March Town.

Hannah Kelly slotted past the March keeper after just five minutes, before Stef Howard finished off a great passing move to double Newmarket’s lead before the break.

Jazz Wombwell made it 3-0 early in the second-half, with March then reducing the deficit with a goal of their own.

However Newmarket finished with a flourish as Olivia Haste scored twice to leave the hosts celebrating a 5-1 win.

n Newmarket Ladies III remain top of Division Four North West South following a 3-1 triumph over Huntingdon II on Saturday.

Goals from Vicky Benedikz, Jessica Logan and Brooke Le Marie helped Newmarket maintain their winning start to the campaign.
