Joggers team up in cross country finale

Newmarket Joggers teamed up with Sudbury Joggers to face the might of the St Edmund Pacers and Stowmarket Striders in the final Suffolk Cross Country League fixture of the winter.

After heavy rain overnight, the course was at its most testing, but Paul Holley led home the men for Newmarket in 13th place overall.

Martyn Taylor (23rd), V50 Jogger Greg Davis was next in 34th. Neville Clarke (90th), Jon Brooker (107th), Clive Purbrook (109th), Manuel Marchi (128th), Charles Shoolbred (139th, over-65 winner), David Smith (154th), Brian Munns (169th), Jim Withers (188th) and Mike Sales (227th) followed.

The ladies have been riding high in the table and did their title chances no harm.

Nicky Chapman has made massive strides in the last two years and led them home in 83rd place.

Kerrine Ferrin chased her home in 95th, followed by Grainne Brennan (119th), Carolynn Anderson (185th), Helen Wass (195th), Belinda Schofield (199th), Kathryn Lowrie (201st), Kate Warboys (210th), Bee Chapman (225th), Isabel Vincente (226th), Sarah Sales (241st), Marjie Davis (242nd), Lisa Winnington (250th), Pearl Fay (253rd) and Debbie Read (258th).

Sunday, the Joggers were led home by Martyn Taylor in 2.07.35.

Paul Holley (2.13.55), Joe Sadler (2.17.26), Ben Blowes (2.17.45), Kevin Connolly (2.24.52), Nicky Chapman (2.33.23) and Justin Long (2.45.29) followed.
