Frank Howard saw his decision to use a feeder rod justified after taking victory in Sunday’s open match at Jeagor Farm Lakes.

Fishing from peg 14 at the Holywell Row venue, Howard finished in the clear out in front with 34lb 6oz.

Stuart Harrison – who sat next door to Howard on peg 13 – finished second with a 25lb 5oz mixed bag of carp and silver fish, while Fred Schultheiss, on peg three, claimed third with 20lb 12oz.

Newmarket-based angler Derek Breedon was the winner of last Tuesday’s OAP match at Fraser’s Fishery in Little Downham.

Breedon, sitting on peg 11, topped the weights in the match fished on Emily’s Lake, with 33lb 8oz.

Just under two pounds back in second was Norman Frear, peg 15, with 3l1b 12oz, with Jim Borg, peg 7, taking third with 27lb.

Over at Blackdyke Trout Fishery in Hockwold, lots of fish have been caught close to the banks, with orange lures working best on floating lines.
