Newmarket Cycling Club enjoyed an excellent turnout of 41 riders for their annual two up time trial.

Ely-based duo Rory Havis and Mat Eley were convincing winners, riding round the nine-mile Red Lodge course in 19 minutes and 47 seconds.

Jon Wilson and Gary Hounsome finished second with a time of 20.13, while third place was taken by teenager Max Sahota (20.50).

Francesca Rust was the first lady across the line, pairing up with Colin Whitechurch to post a time of 22.12, with Bobbie Mach riding a personal best of 24.50.

Elsewhere, Hounsome was the standout performer among the Newmarket cyclists who competed in the Tour of Cambridge Chrono time trial.

Hounsome completed the 16-mile course in 39.06 to finish 76th and secure qualification for the UCI World Time Trial Championships in Denmark later this year.

Jordan Black (45.35) finished third in the 16-18 age category but missed out on qualifying by one place.

Eugene Husband (42.32), Steve Peck (43.16), Gordon Irvine (43.29), Mark Gibbs (43.30), Rust (45.14) and Alex Leeson (52.01) all finished the race.

Wilson took fifth place in the Shaftesbury Middle Markers 25-mile time trial with a time of 58.59.
