Ever-present Ransom scoops award double

Ursula Ransom took centre stage at the Newmarket Joggers’ end-of-year presentation night on Saturday after scooping two awards.

The ever-present member landed the club’s coveted Champion Performer of the Year crown, along with the women’s Grand Prix award, which is judged on a series of eight mixed terrain events plus one joker to be played in a chosen event.

There were two further double winners at the event staged at the Rosery Hotel in Exning.

The improving Nicky Chapman picked up both the women’s Winter Handicap award plus the women’s Improver prize, while Charles Shoolbred won the men’s Veteran of the Year award and men’s Winter Handicap.

Kate Warboys and Keith Page, both graduates from the club’s 2014 beginners’ course, won the women’s and men’s New Member of the Year awards respectively, while fellow graduate Helen Wass won the women’s Team Member of the Year trophy.

The women’s Veteran of the Year award went to Belinda Scofield, while Debbie Read received the Club Member of the Year. Alex Cairns was the men’s Club Member of the Year and Mike Sales the men’s Improver of the Year, while Martyn Taylor won the men’s Grand Prix award.
