Two Newmarket Cycling Triathlon Club members have qualified for next year’s European sprint and standard distance after battling it out at the Althorp Duathlon over the weekend.
Karl Proctor tackled the sprint distance and Clare Fleming took on the Olympic distance event.
Despite poor conditions and a tough five-kilometre run, 20km bike, followed by another 5km run, Proctor won his age category (v45-49) and was 24th overall in one hour 27 minutes seven seconds.
His age group triumph resulted in him qualifying to represent GB in his age category at the ETU Powerman Long Distance and Sprint Duathlon European Championships in Horst, Holland.
Fleming came up trumps once again in the Olympic distance event held over a 10km run, 40km bike and 10km run, to secure third in 2.56.56.
Fleming has qualified for the Alcobendas ETU Standard Distance Duathlon European Championships, which will take place in Spain in April.
