Ely cyclist Matt Eley broke the one-hour-mark in the Lea Valley Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on Sunday.

His time of 58 minutes 54 seconds, was just over five minutes behind winner Rhys Howells, while Newmarket Cycling Club’s Bob Watson recorded 1.02.19.

Newmarket-based Francesca Rust was on double duty at the weekend.

She was second woman home in the Cycle Club Breckland 10-mile race on Saturday in a very impressive time of 25.57 and fourth in the hilly Sudbury 22-mile time trial in a time of 1.00.25.

Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club has a series of midweek time trials on Wednesday evenings from mid-April onwards, held in villages around Newmarket, at which new riders are always welcome.

There are also organised club rides from Newmarket Leisure Centre on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
