Cheveley Road Club A have moved off the foot of the Newmarket Snooker and Billiards League thanks to a 3-2 win over Soham Sports Centre.
The night started well for Soham with Chris Blease potting for fun in an easy 88-25 win in the opening snooker frame over Mark Holwill.
Tom Crawford pushed David Bentinck before succumbing by 10 points.
With nothing between the players at 90 apiece, Bentinck levelled the match with a 100-90 win.
Cheveley captain Paul Sharpe lived up to his name in the next snooker game, cutting Colin Johnson down to size with a well-earned 53-21 win.
Soham captain Kevin Peacock again levelled the match by defeating Larry Wargen 100-50 in the second billiards frame to set up a decider.
The match was to go the way of the hosts as Paul Bunting dished out a snooker lesson to Larry Giblen in the deciding frame, winning comfortably, 58-18.
A final-frame victory from Mildenhall Social Club captain Richard Lyes gave his side a 3-2 victory over Cheveley Royal British Legion.
Stef Wait put Mildenhall into an early lead with a 52-24 win over Ian Spinks in the first snooker frame.
A missed cannon shot by Alan Benton allowed Ian Starling to take a 100-99 win in the first billiards contest before Dave Rabbeth put his side in front with a facile 50-10 win against Steve Jones Junior in the second snooker frame.
The scores were levelled once again with Richard Badcock defeating Dale Jeffery in the final billiards contest before Lyes took the decider for the win.
Cambridge Snooker Centre kicked off the New Year in style by giving New Astley Club a sound thrashing.
They ruthlessly disposed their Newmarket-based opponents 5-0.
