Chapman clocks new marathon best

Marathon regular Nicky Chapman saw a trip to Yorkshire at the weekend well rewarded after clocking a new personal best (pb) in the York Marathon.

Making the journey to the historic city with fellow Newmarket Joggers member Kevin Connolly, Chapman shaved four minutes from her previous pb to cross the line at the same time as Connolly in three hours 29 minutes 44 seconds.

n After last year’s wash out, the Great Eastern Half Marathon in Peterborough was blessed with perfect conditions for supporters and runners alike.

The Joggers contingent were led home by V50 Greg Davis in a solid time of 1.24.02.

Close up behind were Alex Cairns and the fast-improving Simon Archer with a brace of terrific pbs in 1.25.13 and 1.26.32 respectively.

n There was some solid performances from the Joggers in the Cambridge Town and Gown 10k on Sunday.

Paul Dockerill led the team home in 43.42.

There was also a pb from Mike Sales in 46.27, while Sarah Sales — gaining valuable racing experience — finished in 58.04.

n Whatever the venue or distance, Clive Purbrook and Belinda Schofield like to race at the weekend.

The Tiptree 10-mile race was their choice this week with Purbrook finishing in 1.16.08 and Schofield in 1.26.04.
