Beeton the best in shortened half marathon

Six members of the Newmarket Joggers contested a shortened Lode Half Marathon on Sunday.

An illegal rave in nearby Burwell saw race organisers forced into reducing the race from 13.1 miles down to 10.9 miles.

In total there were 195 runners who completed the flat road route, with the best performing Joggers member Jason Beeton, who finished 26th in a time of one hour 15 minutes.

He was followed home by Clive Purbrook (58th, 1.21.37); Keith Williams (84th, 1.25.36); Charles Schoolbred (88th and 60-plus trophy winner, 1.26.37); Belinda Schofield (115th, 1.32.54); Malclom Osbourn (143rd, 1.40.46).

Corinne Shoolbred and Chris Aylmer completed the Lode three-mile fun run — times for the race have not yet officially been announced.

n The Joggers were joined in the race by three members of Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club (NCTC).

Top performer for the club was Maxine Lane, who finished as the fourth lady and 36th overall in 1.16.13.

Finishing in behind Lane was Hayden Marsh (1.22.15, 62nd place) and Crayton McDonald (1.24.40, 75th).
