Love lands the 1,000 Guineas for Aidan O'Brien
He uncharacteristically had just one runner in this afternoon's QIPCO 1,000 Guineas, but that was all Aidan O'Brien needed as Love triumphed in the second Classic of the weekend at Newmarket.
A lot of the talk heading into the contest centred around last year's bet365 Fillies' Mile winner Quadrilateral (Love was third in that race) and Millisle, who had in-form jockey Oisin Murphy on board hunting a Guineas double.
But neither of those two were ever really in contention as Love – ridden by Ryan Moore – reeled in early race leader Cloak Of Spirits to win by a comfortable margin.
The victory means Ballydoyle Stables-based O'Brien has now accounted for four of the last five 1,000 Guineas winners.
Speaking to reporters via Zoom, O'Brien said: "She was doing everything right throughout the winter and during the spring.
"She is a lovely filly. We always felt she would get much further than a mile.
"Ryan gave her beautiful ride, very uncomplicated. We couldn't be happier."
Moore, meanwhile, added: "She's a very uncomplicated filly and we've always thought a lot of her. She's a typical Galileo filly and she was in control of the race from a long way out."
The daughter of Galileo is now the new favourite for the Investec Oaks in early July.
