Newmarket-based Links Ladies regain Jean Wilkinson Trophy
For the second time in three years, The Links Ladies won the prestigious Jean Wilkinson Trophy.
In the semi-finals, the Newmarket-based team managed to gain some revenge on their Gog Magog counterparts, who had beaten them at the same stage 12 months ago.
Just like last year, it was an extremely close and tense contest between the sides that ended with the scores even – each team won three matches and one was halved.
It meant a sudden-death play-off was required to determine the winner and up stepped Alex Gilbert for the The Links, who duly sent a magnificent drive down the first to set up the victory.
In contrast, the final was a more straightforward affair against Brampton Park.
The Links were in control from the start, winning the first four of seven matches to claim the trophy, with the team also leading two of the three remaining matches that were called in.
Captain Jude Hole said of the success: “It was a very tense and somewhat stressful day at times with so many highs and lows, but overall absolutely amazing and I am so proud to captain The Links Ladies.”
Semi-final team: Alex Gilbert, Lynn Lambert, Carol Wigham, Lesley Ellis, Sue Hide, Mary Walsh, Jane Clark
Finals Team: Alex Gilbert, Lynn Lambert, Carol Wigham, Marian Earle, Sue Hide, Pauline Bond, Jane Clark
