Kelvin Enaro got his Lakenheath career off to a dream start with a brace in the club’s first ever Thurlow Nunn League First Division North encounter on Saturday.

And, having played a key role in the 3-2 win at Debenham LC, the attacker is keen to make finding the net a regular occurrence during his stint at The Pit.

After Aaron Turner had given newly-promoted Lakenheath the lead at the break, Debenham drew level after the restart.

However, former Mildenhall Town and Ely City winger Enaro then struck twice to put the visitors back in the ascendancy, meaning the hosts’ second goal of the game was a mere consolation.

Enaro said: “Scoring so early on at a new club gives you a lot of confidence and helps to settle you down.

“The manager has challenged me to score more goals and it is good to start repaying that faith.

“I scored a 11 or 12 goals a couple of seasons ago for Ely even though I was often out of position.

“Most clubs have played me out wide, but I like to be central.

“I am starting wide for Lakenheath, but the manager is playing 4-3-3 and it means the wide players can be more narrow, which suits me.”

Enaro was one of numerous players with previous Thurlow Nunn League experience that Lakenheath boss Ben Cowling recruited during the summer.

The manager is keen for his men to be competitive during the club’s maiden campaign at Step 6, and Enaro is confident the quality is there for Cowling’s expectations to be met.

“We have some really good players – ones that have experienced winning leagues and playing at a higher level,” added the Nigerian.

“That sort of experience is vital when you move into a higher league.

“It means we know what we are dealing with instead of having to play catch up and dropping points along the way.

“The manager does not want to make up the numbers at this level and that sort of ambition is what attracted me to the club.

“As long as we can find some consistency, we have the players to be competitive at this level.”

Having got off to a winning start, Lakenheath will play their first ever home match on Saturday as a Thurlow Nunn League club when Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves are the visitors to their Wings Road base (3pm).
