Lakenheath manager delighted to sign goalkeeper Tom Coombe from Fakenham Town

Lakenheath manager Ben Cowling is hoping that new goalkeeper Tom Coombe will prove himself to be the 'missing part of the jigsaw'.

Coombe has joined Lakenheath from fellow Thurlow Nunn League First Division North outfit Fakenham Town and he made his debut during Friday's 2-1 defeat to his former club Walsham-le-Willows in the Buildbase FA Vase.

The 'keeper is likely to have been well remembered by those of a Lakenheath persuasion who witnessed him turn in a man-of-the-match performance during Fakenham's victory in the first ever floodlit game at The Pit last season, and Cowling is looking for similar performances from his new gloveman.

"He won all the awards at Fakenham last year and two years ago he won all the awards here (at Walsham)," said the Lakenheath boss.

"It is no secret I chased him in the summer and he was not quite sure at the time but it is great to now have him on board.

"It is a big addition for us. Hopefully Tom will prove to be the missing piece of the jigsaw. If we can keep everyone fit we want to have a real good go this season."

Frank Gammon, who had been Lakenheath's goalkeeper prior to Coombe's arrival, has moved in the opposition direction and by chance Fakenham are next up for Cowling's side on September 7.
