King's Ely School pupils secure spots at Royal Windsor and Hickstead International events
A number of Ely students have booked their places at prestigious events such as the Royal Windsor Horse Show and Hickstead International in 2019.
The pupils, who attend King’s School in the heart of the city, achieved that standard with their performances – both individually and collectively – at the recent National Schools’ Equestrian Association qualifiers at Forest Edge Arena, Swaffham.
In the 90cm class, Adele Shaw, whose parents own Newmarket-based company Rapido Racing Ltd, teamed up with Ellie Grimsey, Emily Gredley and Ryan de Sousa – son of Champion Jockey Silvestre – to finish second and earn themselves a passage through to the Royal Windsor event.
Shaw and Gredley will also be in action at Hickstead International after they won the 1m class along with Katie Cameron and Eleanor Fairey.
Manager of the King’s Ely equestrian team, Sue Cameron, said: “Our riders’ success on the day means they will be representing Cambridgeshire schools at national competitions, which is great.
“For those who qualified for Hickstead, it will be a chance to jump in the main arena at an international competition.
“The hard work and dedication of the riders, their parents and some very talented ponies has culminated in some amazing successes recently.
“I am not only proud of their results, but also how they conduct themselves and have fun when they are together and competing.”
All of the riders will also be competing at next year’s County Championships, with some competing both on their own and also as part of a squad.
