King's Ely School will fly the flag for Cambridgeshire at the Regional Tier 2 Hockey tournament

A team from King’s Ely School will be representing Cambridgeshire at the Regional Tier 2 Hockey tournament later this month.

King’s Ely’s U14A girls were one of a number of teams that competed at the Cambridge County Tier 2 Hockey Tournament in October, and they came away from the event victorious.

The girls opened up against their Saffron Walden County High School counterparts and ran out winners by a 3-1 margin.

And that was followed up by a 5-2 triumph at the expense Wisbech Grammar School, which in turn saw them crowned the tournament’s champions.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the girls’ first team played against Stamford High School in the preliminary round of the England Hockey Nationals Schools Tier 1 competition.

An all-round positive team performance saw the side record a 3-0 victory to advance through to the next round of the event.

Rebecca Daniel, who in recent months has been selected to represent England at international level, was the hero of the day as she scored a hat-trick.

Head of Girls’ Games at King’s Ely Senior, Chanre Bond, said: “We were all delighted with the performances of both the U14A and the first-team players.

“The energy and drive with which they played on the day gave them their well-deserved victories.”
