Newmarket Joggers win Men's Suffolk Cross County Championships prize for the first time in club's history
Newmarket Joggers made club history by winning the Men’s Team Trophy during the Culford School-hosted Suffolk Cross Country Championships at the weekend.
The team – made up of Neil Pollard, James Smith, Paul Holley, Mark Hayward, Paul Dockerill and Charles Jones – ended the Joggers’ 36-year wait for this particular piece of silverware.
In total the Joggers amassed 59 points, leaving them 15 clear of nearest challengers Ipswich Jaffa.
Individually, the Joggers also had a very successful day. Neil Pollard finished 1st of 23 in his MV40 age group, with James Smith MV40 taking 3rd place trophy.
Paul Holley came 1st of 20 in MV50 and Neville Clarke (49:04) 1st of 7 in MV65. Other male Joggers to finish were: Marc Drury MV45, 46:28; Tom Elton MV50, 49:39; Brian Munns MV55, 49:52; Clive Purbrook MV60, 51:12; Alan Shand MV60, 53:46; Robert Hawkins MV55, 54:41;Jim Withers MV65, 59:59; Chris Aylmer MV65, 61:54.
In the separate women’s 10K, Elke Hausler was first female Jogger to finish, coming 28th of 85 in 49:47. She narrowly missed winning a trophy in her age group coming 4th of 16 in FV55.
Belinda Schofield (64:08) did well to win 3rd place trophy in FV60. Others female Joggers to finish were: Rebecca Oettle FS, 54:58; Nicole Smith FV45, 59:34; Jan Holmes FV55, 60:50; Sianie Painter FV50, 61:08; Angela Barnes FS, 62:54; Angela Brennan FS, 66:21.
