Heywood hits 56 as seconds lose at home to Sudbury

Mildenhall II slipped to a 17-run defeat at home to Sudbury II to remain in the bottom half of the Two Counties Championship Division Two table.

Sudbury batted first at Wamil Way and looked in trouble after the hosts reduced them to 35-4, before Matt Pears (49) and Steve Witham (67 not out) aided their recovery.

Jack Loveday (2-45) took two wickets for Mildenhall, but could not prevent the visitors from collecting 60 runs from the last five overs to finish on 175-5.

The home side made a good start to the run chase as Tom Heywood (56) and Matt Allen (33) put on 83 for the first wicket.

However the introduction of Sudbury bowler Brad Richardson changed Mildenhall’s fortunes.

Richardson (7-37) ripped through the batting order to bowl the hosts all out for 158, just 17 runs short of the target.

n Mildenhall III slumped to back-to-back defeats in Division Four, losing by eight wickets away at Haverhill II.

James Taylor (28) and Alex Wilkens (22) were the top scorers for Mildenhall as they finished all out for 144, before Carl Bradford (69 no) and Josh Ruthven (40) eased the visitors to 146-2.

n In Division Seven, Mildenhall IV also tasted defeat despite a half century from Andy Francis (66).

Captain Lou Handy added 44 as Mildenhall ended on 199-7, with West Bergholt finishing with a winning score of 203-5 to claim victory with five wickets to spare.

n Ben Shepperson (3-25) helped Mildenhall Sunday (138-3) beat Brockley (136-9) by seven wickets, while Mildenhall Sunday II (114-9) lost by nine wickets to Tuddenham (117-1).

n Lily Reynolds scored 46 and Lucy Fraser (3-28) took three wickets as Mildenhall Ladies (134) lost by five runs against Ipswich (139-5).
