Guineas and Derby Festivals both postponed

The Jockey Club has confirmed that the QIPCO Guineas Festival – due to be hosted at Newmarket's Rowley Mile course during the first weekend of May – will not be staged as planned.

The decision, which also includes The Investec Derby Festival at Epsom in June, is due to the ongoing public health emergency with coronavirus.

However, the organisation added that neither meeting has been scrapped from the calendar and that they are working on alternative dates.

As it stands, all racing is suspended until the end of April by order of the British Horseracing Authority.

The Journal, meanwhile, revealed last week that Newmarket is one of the venues under consideration to host regional racing meetings behind closed doors next month.
