Soham Town Rangers ready for another key Bostik League North Division encounter against Romford

After winning a crucial encounter last weekend, the challenge now for Soham Town Rangers is to take maximum points from another one on Saturday.

The Greens headed to Dereham Town rooted to the foot of the Bostik League North Division table and with just four victories to their name from 18 outings.

However, Callum Russell’s 46th-minute goal secured a vital win for Robbie Mason’s team that saw them not only leapfrog their hosts, but also two other sides, including neighbours Mildenhall Town.

Romford’s New Year’s Day win over Grays Athletic subsequently knocked Soham down a place to 18th, but with just two sides expected to be relegated this term, Mason’s men currently sit above the dreaded drop zone.

And they have the chance to gain some immediate revenge on Romford when the Essex side, who are just one point above Soham, visit Julius Martin Lane on Saturday (3pm).

Mason said: “It was a massive win for us at Dereham and we deserved it.

“We missed some good chances in the first half but when we finally got the goal it was pleasing to see us keep pushing forward and being positive.

“There was some late pressure to deal with, which you expect when a home team needs a goal, but we weathered it. Callum really deserved his goal as well. Played him up front with Muzza (Sam Mulready) in a 4-4-2 and it worked.”

Meanwhile, on the Romford contest, he added: “It is another huge game and that will give us a lot of confidence if we can win back-to-back games which are so important.

“It takes the pressure off a little bit and will hopefully mean we are not looking over our shoulders as much.”

Player-assistant manager Erkan Okay will be available for the game after serving a three-match suspension.
