Frankie Dettori-ridden Anapurna lands the Epsom Oaks for John Gosden
John Gosden landed the Investec Oaks for a third time this afternoon thanks to Anapurna.
After a slow start to the fillies Classic, it looked as though the Aidan O'Brien-trained Pink Dogwood was going to win through as she hit the front under Ryan Moore two furlongs from home.
She was still in front with a furlong to go, but Dettori turned on the taps in the closing stages to edge his daughter of Frankel in front.
"It was a brave performance from the filly and the jockey," Gosden told ITV Racing. "I thought coming past the furlong pole Ryan had got it and somehow this filly found the reserves, courage and energy to get herself in front."
While it marked a third Oaks for Gosden after Taghrooda in 2014 and Enable in 2017, it was a fifth victory in the race for Dettori, 25 years after he rode his first – Balanchine in 1994.
