In the cricket, Burwell lost by two wickets at strugglers Norwich in the East Anglian Premier League despite the best efforts of Peter Richer (67, 4-54) with bat and ball.

Mildenhall’s Two Counties Championship Division One title hopes were dealt a blow after losing by 10 runs in a high scoring game at Halstead.

Joe Reed’s knock of 145 helped them close on 335-7, but they fell short in the run chase after a double century from Josh Wells (201) had helped Halstead finish on 345-9.

Elsewhere, Worlington’s two-match winning run came to an end after suffering a nine run defeat against basement side Elmstead Grasshoppers.

In the speedway, Mildenhall Fen Tigers’ wait for a first away win of the season goes on following a 55-34 defeat at Rye House Raiders yesterday.

Back to the football and Ipswich Town conceded two injury time goals to begin the new Sky Bet Championship season with a 2-2 draw at Brentford.

While Norwich City’s first game back in the Barclays Premier League ended in a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
