Ely City held off a spirited fightback from Dereham Town Reserves to secure a 3-2 victory at the Unwin Ground on Saturday.

Brady Stone’s hosts opened up a three-goal lead by the 60-minute mark thanks to a brace from Alex Theobald and a strike courtesy of Craig Neal.

However, the visitors from Norfolk ensured it would be a nervy ending to the Thurlow Nunn League Division One encounter with two late goals.

Tomorrow night, the third-placed Robins will travel to Haverhill Borough (7.45pm).

n Meanwhile, in the Premier Division, Newmarket Town’s recent run of poor form continued at home to Brantham Athletic.

The Jockeys broke the deadlock in the 35th minute through Ashley Thompson, only for the away side to respond by scoring four unanswered goals in the second half.

It means that Kevin Grainger’s men, who are due to host Walsham-le-Willows on Friday night (7:45pm), have conceded 12 goals on their current four-game winless run.

n Soham Town Rangers had been scheduled to travel to Aveley in the Ryman League Division One North last Saturday, but the pitch at Mill Field was waterlogged.

However, they returned to action on Tuesday in style to seal a late thrilling 1-0 victory over promotion-chasing Harlow Town.

Having dominated much of the encounter, Soham left it late to snatch victory as Jordan Gent struck in the 90th minute to seal a second successive win and maintain their unbeaten run.

This Saturday, the Greens will welcome fourth-placed AFC Hornchurch to Julius Martin Lane (3pm). When the sides met last month, Soham were edged out 2-1.
