Soham Town Rangers ended their eight-match losing streak with a 1-1 draw away at Cheshunt on Saturday.

It was an evenly-contested start to the game as both sides had shots blocked, before the Greens opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Jordan Gent headed Robbie Nightingale’s corner back into the middle of the area for Luke Stanley to head into the net.

However seven minutes later the hosts levelled, after Marcus Milner delivered a long ball through to Jason Hallett, who placed his shot into the bottom corner.

The game continued in the same manner although clear opportunities were limited, as Gent headed wide for Soham while Cheshunt’s Kyle Assante saw his effort come back off the bar.

The home side started to have more of the attacking play at the start of the second-half, with Soham goalkeeper Harry Reynolds brought into action to tip Luke Marshall’s strike over the bar five minutes after the restart.

Dave Kendall hit the frame of the Rangers goal from Tom Bruno’s corner, before Steve Fallon’s side threatened to go in front again when Simon Swinton fired wide.

Rob Ruddy had a goal ruled out for offside in the 75th minute, with Rangers then withstanding a late push from the hosts to take home a point.

n On Tuesday, Soham conceded three second-half goals to slip to a 3-0 defeat at high-flying Thurrock, in a game which saw new signing Pat Bexfield make his debut for the club after signing from St Ives Town.
