Newmarket Town edged a point closer to second placed Godmanchester Rovers in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division after playing out a 1-1 draw away to Ipswich Wanderers on Saturday.

With second placed Rovers not in action it handed the chance to the Jockeys to bridge the gap between the two sides, but they failed to make the most of the opportunity after being held to a share of the spoils.

The result confirmed Town as the league’s draw specialists with it being their ninth of the season.

Mildenhall Town were forced to make do with a point after their match against relegation threatened Diss Town ended in a 2-2 draw.

Richard Logan and James McCabe were on target for the hosts while Steven Gilding and recent signing Kyle Downes netted for the visitors.

Ely City took another small step closer towards the trap door when going down 2-1 at home to fellow strugglers Wivenhoe Town.

Defeat for the Robins was their 18th in the league this season.

In the Ryman League Division One North Soham Town Rangers trip to Waltham Abbey was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
