Lakenheath 2

Soham Town Rangers
Reserves 2

A poor first half display and inspired performance from the visiting custodian saw high-flying Lakenheath have to make do with a draw on Saturday.

Lakenheath opened the scoring thanks to a stroke of luck with a Rangers defender thundered a clearance from Matt Hayden’s heavy
touch into the back of his own net.

Rangers deservedly drew level when a spectacular shot nestled into the net from 20 yards out before taking the lead in the 43rd minute when the smallest player on the pitch rose highest from a deep cross to loop a header over Dan Corston.

After being on the end of some stern words at half-time Lakenheath came out with a renewed purpose in the second half. Pinning their opponents in their own half for much of the second period Lakenheath drew level when Ricky Cornish’s in swinging corner was glanced home from Luke Catchpole.

Further chances fell to Hayden, Darcy Place and James Morley but they could find no way past the excellent visiting keeper who had a terrific afternoon.

Fordham 0

Red Lodge 4

Fordham were beaten for the first time this season in a league match when going down to a very strong Red lodge outfit.

The visitors were 1-0 up inside the opening 10 minutes. Jamie Crawley missed a glorious opening to equalise soon after but the former Newmarket Town midfielder could only place his effort wide.

After missing the chance to draw level Fordham then gave away a sloppy goal at the other end and found themselves chasing the game at an early stage.

A third goal with the assist of a deflection and a couple of injuries added to Fordham’s woes, and to seal it all, the visitors smashed an effort into the roof of the net.
