A Marcus Hall goal midway through the second half saw Soham come from behind to share the points with sixth placed Cheshunt on Saturday.

The hosts created the first of the early chances as Paterson delivered the ball from the right of the area towards the back post, with May making a fine one handed save to keep out Sawyer’s header.

It was Cheshunt though that opened the scoring after 13 minutes when Lawton blocked Hallett’s initial effort with Adam Bolle following up to convert the loose ball.

Before the end of the half, Soham had opportunities to go in level at the interval level but Gent and debutant Hammond rose to head over, while Paterson also shot wide when well placed.

Midway through the second half, Soham drew level when the ball was played in from the left towards the edge of the area, where Marcus Hall knocked it past May, who had advanced from his line, to roll it into an empty net and mark his 50th game for the club with a goal.

Cheshunt came closest to retaking the lead with 10 minutes remaining when Townshend denied them, clearing a goalbound header off the line to seal a point for Soham.
