Exning United continued their good start to the season with a confident 5-2 victory over Mildenhall United in the Creake Charity Shield.

Exning started strongly with Stephen Bugg quickly opening the scoring with a headed finish from a Curtis Miller cross.

James Lane made it 2-0 with a powerful strike from inside the box, and Jack Welford added his second in two games with a solo run and lob.

Lane turned provider for Exning’s next goal as his cross found Miller, who made no mistake heading it home to put the hosts 4-0 up.

Mildenhall managed to pull one back just before half-time with a well-taken volley, and then a long range effort early in the second-half put Exning under more pressure as their lead had been cut down to just two goals.

However Exning reacted well and finished the game strongly with Lane on target to secure a 5-2 victory and their place in the second round of the Creake Charity Shield.
