Ely City recorded back-to-back wins over the Easter weekend to strengthen their promotion push this season.

The Robins (third) occupy the final promotion spot in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division table, and hold an eight point lead over fourth place Halstead Town.

Matty Simpson and Ash Walter were both on target as Ely edged past Cornard United 2-1 at The Unwin Ground on Saturday.

On Monday, first-half goals from Josh Sewell and Simpson secured the promotion chasers a 2-0 triumph away at March Town United.

It was a seventh win in a row for Brady Stone’s side, who now need a maximum of 14 points from their final seven games to clinch a return to the Premier Division at the first attempt.

Ely host Woodbridge Town (eighth) on Saturday (3pm).

n Mildenhall Town finished unbeaten in March as they beat Swaffham Town 2-1 on Monday to stay fifth in the Premier Division.

Chris Bacon and Luke Parkinson both scored in the opening 20 minutes to seal a sixth league win in a row for the Hall, having beaten FC Clacton 3-0 at home on Saturday (Bacon, Green, Parkinson).

Dean Greygoose’s men are without a game this weekend.

n Soham Town Rangers slipped to consecutive Ryman League Division One North defeats after Harlow Town ran out 3-0 winners at The Harlow Arena on Saturday.

Rangers (15th) had beaten the promotion chasers 1-0 at Julius Martin Lane last month, but second-half goals from Junior Dadson and Alex Read (two) ensured the Essex side gained revenge.

Soham host Maldon and Tiptree (10th) on Saturday (3pm).
