Mildenhall Fen Tigers have unveiled plans for 'Danny's Day' following the death of their former captain Danny Ayres at the weekend.

Ayres, aged 33, died on Saturday - news that was received with an outpouring of emotion from the speedway world.

And now the Fen Tigers, who paid tribute to the rider nicknamed 'Showman' yesterday afternoon, have announced that they will host a charity testimonial meeting to raise funds for Ayres' dependants.

Along with the West Row-based outfit, sides from Ipswich, Scunthorpe and Kent – all clubs that Ayres was closely associated with – will take part in a four-team tournament at the Mildenhall Stadium on Sunday, June 7.

Fen Tigers promoter Greg Palmer said: “We are proud as a club to be hosting this event in Danny’s memory. He was a special person and was so proud to ride for Mildenhall, as we were to have him in our team.

"We will do everything in our power to make this a special occasion and put together a day that everyone will remember.

"All profits form the meeting will go to his dependants and we will now start working on sponsorship opportunities for the day with the management teams from Ipswich, Scunthorpe and Kent.

"I would like to thank Rob Godfrey (BSPA chairman), Chris Louis (Ipswich) and Len Silver (Kent) for their wholehearted support and we will let fans know in the next few weeks how they can be a part of ‘Danny’s Day’."
