Exning Cricket Club endured a difficult weekend as they went down to a comprehensive five-wicket defeat to visiting Elmstead.

The visitors invited the home team to bat and they got off to a disastrous start as six balls into the innings they found themselves two wickets down.

This brought together Oakley Colby and Matthew Catley. Slowly the partnership began moving, but once Colby (10) and Catley (26) were dismissed the innings soon came to an abrupt end.

No other batsman made double figures as eventually Exning were dismissed for 56.

Six balls into the Elmstead innings and they too found themselves a wicket down and by the fifth over they were three wickets down.

Once Daniel Baigent (4-11) had finished his spell, Elmstead found themselves 24-4 and suddenly their was a glimmer of hope that maybe Exning could pull off the most remarkable result.

Despite picking up one more wicket, there was just too much to ask of the bowlers and Elmstead reached their target with the loss of five wickets. Nizami guiding his team to the total with an unbeaten 29.

On Saturday, Exning travel away to Easton.
