New Astley Boxing Club's Demie-Jade Resztan in great shape for the Women’s European Boxing Championships in Madrid

New Astley Boxing Club head coach Mark O’Reilly believes that star fighter Demie-Jade Resztan is capable of winning a medal at the ongoing Women’s European Boxing Championships on the outskirts of Madrid.

The four-time national champion was beaten at the quarter-final stage last year, but O’Reilly believes she has improved both physically and mentally since then.

“She was very unlucky to lose that day on a split decision, but she has matured since then,” he said.

“I always believe Demie is capable in any tournament she enters, but this is the most confident I have felt for a long while.

“She has been training with coaches in Sheffield and they are very happy with her. There have been no hiccups and everything has gone to plan.

“At the level she is at, it comes down to mental as much as it does physical, and she is in the best position she has been in.

“Do I think she is capable of winning a medal? I really do. She is determined, driven and physically stronger – she really feels it.

“You are always hopeful with someone like Demie because of the talent that she has, but this time I am more than hopeful.”

Depending on the outcome of the draw, Resztan is likely to start her campaign for glory either today or tomorrow.
