The Bostik League North Division season may still be in its infancy, but Soham Town Rangers have a crucial encounter on their hands on Saturday.

The bottom-of-the-table Greens will welcome Witham Town to Julius Martin Lane (3pm), with the Essex side sitting one place and one point better off.

Soham head into the fixture on the back of suffering their ninth defeat of the campaign, going down 1-0 on the road at Maldon & Tiptree.

The only goal of the game came just before the break, courtesy of the home side’s George Sykes.

Maldon had attacker Michael Brothers sent off 10 minutes from time, but Soham could not make the most of their numerical advantage.

On a more positive note, the encounter marked a Soham debut for winger Prince Mutswunguma following his arrival on a dual registration deal from higher-league St Neots Town.

* In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, Ely City halted a seven-game losing run by playing out a 2-2 draw at home with Brantham Athletic.

Centre-back Tom Williams and striker Sam Reed twice put the hosting Robins in front, but on both occasions they were pegged back by the visitors.

Seventeenth-placed Ely are back in action on Saturday away at Wroxham, who sit second in the table (3pm).

* After having last weekend off, Lakenheath host Leiston Reserves in the First Division North on Saturday (3pm) and then head to Swaffham Town in the Knockout Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).
