City of Ely Bowls star Greg Harlow into final of Open Pairs at Just World Indoor Bowls Championship
Greg Harlow is into the final of the Open Pairs at the Just World Indoor Bowls Championship after coming through a tight semi-final at Potters Leisure Resort yesterday.
The City of Ely Bowls Club stalwart, and his partner Nick Brett, a former member of the club, defeated Andy Thomson and Mark Royal 5-3, 7-2.
Harlow, the world number one, and Brett won the event back in 2014, and will face three-time winners Paul Foster and Alex Marshall in the final on Monday.
"We won 2-0 and we started both sets well and built up a decent lead," Harlow said. "We couldn't be up against any tougher competition in the final.
"As a pair they've won it three times and I believe the last time we met was in 2014 when we defeated them in the final. It should be a top, top game."
Before Monday's final, Harlow will switch his attention to two other competitions at Potters, the first one being when he partners reigning Women's Singles champion Katherine Rednall in the Mixed Pairs.
The duo face last year's winners Jamie Chestney and Lesley Doig in the quarter-finals this Friday (10am), with the victor to contest their semi-final on Sunday afternoon.
Harlow will then get his Open Singles campaign started against Australian qualifier Brendan Egan on Monday (10am), before returning later in the day to contest the Open Pairs final (1pm).
Meanwhile, Harlow's fellow City of Ely club mate Ellen Falkner teams up with Robert Paxton in the Mixed Pairs against Darren Burnett and Julie Forrest on Friday afternoon.
Falkner then begins her bid for a fourth Women's Singles crown against Janice Gower in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening.
