Smiles all round as The Links in Newmarket makes a busy return to action

Plenty of drives have been going awry at The Links in recent days, but it doesn’t matter.

That is because, after being kept away from the Cambridge Road course for almost eight weeks due to the Covid-19 lockdown, members have just been happy to be back out swinging their clubs.

Chairman Phil Neal said: “We’ve had plenty of people hacking and slicing their drives of the first tee, but they are laughing about it.

“Even myself, I lost three balls on the first two holes!

“But it is just important for us to have re-opened and be busy.

“It is going incredibly well and we have been exceptionally lucky with the weather.

“We have the capacity for 144 players each day and we are pretty full to capacity so are limiting play to members only, although we do have a limited number of memberships available.”
