Burwell Tigers Under-17s ready for first ever appearance in a cup final against Ely Crusaders
Burwell Tigers Under-17s are looking to round off a positive season with victory in their first ever cup final appearance on Sunday.
Since the team was set up 10 seasons ago the Tigers have clinched league titles at under-13 and under-14 level, but despite featuring in a handful of semi-finals, they have never made it through to the last two of a cup competition.
However, that changed this term thanks to a 2-1 victory over Comberton in February, which followed wins in the earlier rounds over Haverhill Town (5-3) and Plantation Youth (4-1).
Ely Crusaders are the team that stand in their way of getting their hands on some silverware, with the two sides set to battle it out at Trumpington Road's Cambridge Stadium on Sunday (2pm).
Coach Alan Sutton said: "We play attacking football with an emphasis on getting the ball down with quality passing and movement.
"We have scored more than 75 goals this season and hopefully we can end the season on a high with a win in the final.
"It will be a tough game as our opponents have had a strong season and have some very good players, but the attitude of the boys has been superb again this season and it would be great for them to get hold of a trophy in a showpiece event."
Burwell finished second in the Cambridgeshire & District Colts Under-17A Division, while Ely did the same in the B Division.
